Bangkok is the
sprawling capital city of Thailand, covering the area
of 1,569 square km with the population of 7.6 million.
The city was first established in 1782 as the capital
of Siam by King Rama I of the Chakkri Dynasty. It has
gone through the period of the aged monarchy era to the
uttermost-respected constitutional monarchy system. With
the globalization, Bangkok or locally called ‘Krungtep’,
which literately means ‘the city of angels’, now becomes
one of the major hubs of the business, cultures, traveling
and modernity of the Southeast Asia.
Thailand merges
everything down into Bangkok. It is the place one can find
skyscrapers next to charming Buddhist shrines, the traditional
fresh markets next to modern shopping malls or the century-old
temples along side high-rise hotels and condominiums at the
bank of the artery Chao Phraya River. The river is located at
the heart of the city where visitors can begin the city tour
by going to several cultural heritage sites such as the Grand
Palace, Wat Pra Kaew, Wat Pho and Wat Arun. On the east side
of the river, which is called Pra Nakhon side, is the location
of numberless bustling business and shopping areas such as
Banglampu, the garment market area; Khao San Road, the
renowned area for backpacker; China Town called Yaowarat; the
Chatuchak Weekend Market; the business streets—Silom Road and
Sukhumvit Road and Siam Square, Bangkok’s
Harajuku.
Bangkok is also the city that never sleeps.
Travelers enjoy the beats of the city all around the clock,
beginning with cruising along the river or taking a culture
tour since early morning, shopping till drop in countless
shops and department stores, indulging with array of Thai
scrumptious cuisine in the evening and dancing all night long
in a pub. The city simply satisfies everybody’s taste. |
