Reforestation "Himmapaan Project"
East West Siam has selected three plots of land
near the Lisu Lodge for an innovative
reforestation project that will carry the name
Himmapaan, a mythical forest that can be
likened to a Garden of Eden for Thai Buddhists and
that artists portray to demonstrate the bounties
of nature.

Himmapaan Forest's Legend
The forest is said to be located in the Himalaya
Mountains. (The word "Himalaya" in ancient
Sanskrit means "abode
of snow". Perhaps that's
also how the name
"Himmapaan"
was derived.) It is also believed that the forests
are located below the Buddhist heavens and are
invisible to the eyes of mortals, who can never
approach or enter.

THAI to start Samui flights on Feb 15
Thai Airways International has confirmed its new
Bangkok-Samui service since 15 February. It has
finalized a fare structure, while streamlining its
flight operations to free up a B737-400 aircraft
to operate the route.
